Increasing your capacity

Have you ever wondered why people under the age of sixteen are prohibited from driving?
Research indicates that they would not have fully developed physically and cognitively to handle the demands of driving, particularly in areas that call for impulse control, risk assessment and decision making. In summary, while driving is good and convenient, those underage are deemed to not yet have the capacity.

As this analogy fades into reality, you may realise that there are also certain opportunities and benefits that need us to become “of age” first before we can realize them.

One of the reasons we do not have what we want yet may probably be because we are not yet fully developed mentally, spiritually or emotionally. We are deemed to lack the capacity to handle what we are asking for. Imagine passing by and you see a toddler crawling towards a big dish full of water, with no adult around. Even if it is extremely hot, any responsible adult would quickly snatch the baby away or remove the hazard from her reach as she can easily drown in it. Sometimes, you and I are like that innocent toddler. We know what we want, we fervently pray for it, and we even take steps towards attaining it, but then we are symbolically holding a small cup while asking for a drumful.

Surely, if that request were to be granted, what will be poured in will overflow to the point of submerging and killing us. Have you ever been in a situation where, when you are about to achieve something, you simply hit a brick wall?

While it can be painful, frustrating and demotivating, you also need to consider that through that denial, God is protecting you, the same way you would protect a baby from a hazard. When you are best suited for it, you will get what you are asking for. Are you the type of person who, with the money that you currently have, engages in a lot of promiscuity? What then does that say about your capacity in handling more money? Are you a person who, with the authority that you currently have, looks down with disdain upon those below your level? What does that say about your capacity in handling more power and more authority?

In essence, what you do with little says a lot about what you will do with more. Can God trust you with more ability, more wealth, more responsibility?

The time is now, to start working on ourselves, to enhance our capacity for greater opportunities, miracles and blessings that are on the way.

Personal development is an underrated subject, yet its rewards are boundless. Renowned speaker and author, Jim Rohn, advised, “ . . . develop an above average personality, because in the end, your personality and not your skills will determine your level of success.”

We all have weaknesses and bad habits that often stand in our way to success. One author once satirically pointed out that the worst thing about having bad habits is having them and thinking that it doesn’t matter.
Actually, bad habits do matter; they impede us, they strip us of our inner power to achieve great things. It is said if you cannot control your impulses, you can never control your future.

A lot of people try to avoid facing their weaknesses.
They hide them behind, anger, aggressiveness, talkativeness, etc. “Until you make the unconscious conscious, it will direct your life, and you will call it destiny,” Carl Yung said.

The key to your greatest success lies within; in honestly facing your negative habits and weaknesses. Through shining the light of your awareness on them, they lose their grip and power over you.

I therefore encourage you to develop a heart filled with love and gratitude even when you feel there is less to love and even less to feel grateful for.

Continuously develop your attitude, so that at each living moment, you are the best and highest version of yourself.
This is how we prove to the Powers that Be that we are capable of handling more than we have, in a responsible manner.
