Takudzwa Chitsiga Sports Reporter
TEN horses will take to the starting stalls in the 24th edition of Independence Trophy Race at Borrowdale Park tomorrow.
The event will see trainer Kirk Swanson bringing in three entries in the 1 600 metres event that has US$9000 in stakes.Swanson, who last had a victory in the event in 2011 when Eight Street romped to victory, will bring in Madigan, Captain’s Tiger and Wild Cat Brooke for this year’s event.

The race is open to three-year olds and the Lisa Harris stable, which won the event in 2012 through Earl of Surrey, has two entries in Macchiato and Alula Borealis.

Orbit War from Argentina will represent last year’s winning stable Alyson Wright as Gokhan Terzi and Amy Bronkhors have two entries each.

The race is run to celebrate Zimbabwe’s independence and the involvement of Mashonaland Turf Club in charity work through the Original Genuine Lotto.

The race has developed through the years and in 1999 the Genuine Original Lotto was born and since then the proceeds of this race have been channelled towards charity.
