PREPARATIONS for this year’s Independence Day celebrations in Buhera, Manicaland, are in full swing, with road rehabilitation, borehole drilling and the sprucing up of the venue progressing well.
To date, more than 20 boreholes have been sunk in the district, whilst rehabilitation is taking place on the Murambinda-Birchenough Bridge, Chivhu-Nyazura and Hwedza-Mutiweshiri roads.
This year’s Uhuru celebrations are running under the theme “Zim@44: Unity, Peace and Development towards Vision 2030”.
In an interview with The Sunday Mail, Manicaland Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution Advocate Misheck Mugadza said preparations are at an advanced stage.
“The preparatory works are going on well. We are excited to be hosting this year’s celebrations in our province. We are getting incredible support from the Government and other stakeholders,” he said.
“The morale is very high in the province. People are raring to go. There is already song and dance and ululation before the date. And I can tell you on the date, it’s all going to be entertainment galore and celebrations.”
He said “Buhera will never be the same” owing to the ongoing works and projects.
Last year, the main Independence Day celebrations were held in Mt Darwin, Mashonaland Central province, where over 50 000 people from across the country attended the grand national event.
