Indonesian professors in exchange visit

The delegation will today visit the University of Zimbabwe before presenting a lecture at the Harare Institute of Technology tomorrow. The group will also visit the Women’s University on Wednesday.
In an interview yesterday, head of the delegation Prof Budi Santosa from the Institute of Technology Sepuluh Nopember said they wanted to work with Zimbabwean institutions, especially in areas of research and student exchange.
“We want to increase our collaboration in higher education with universities in Zimbabwe. If possible, we want to collaborate in research and student exchange where we have universities here sending their students to our institutions and vice versa,” he said.
Prof Santosa said they already have students from other African countries such as Egypt, Tunisia and Sudan among others.
Indonesian universities, he said, offered high quality education competitive at international level.
Prof Santosa said the Indonesian government offers scholarships up to Masters Degree level and Zimbabwean students should take advantage of such opportunities.
“Our government offers scholarships under the South-South movement and under such programmes students will be provided with everything. The government also provides scholarships for potential students,” he said. Prof Santosa said under the potential scholarship scheme, students have to apply for vacancies first at universities of their choice and after being accepted they could then apply for the scholarships.
Another lecturer at the Institute of Technology Sepuluh Nopember Dr Maria Anityasari hailed Zimbabwe’s education system.
“Despite the economic challenges your country faced, education became a priority for your Government,” she said.
Indonesia’s Institute of Technology Sepuluh Nopember is a renowned university founded in 1957. At present the university manages five faculties and it also manages two state polytechnics.
The institution is adopting a new paradigm by executing sequential acceleration to realise an economic development university while strengthening the foundation of the reputable teaching and research university.
