Industrial index continues to retreat

Cement manufacturer PPC tumbled US22c to close at US203c while mobile giant Econet gave in US7,50c to finish the week at US420c in trades valued at                     US$83 000.

The rest of the big caps remained flat. Econet has gained 8 percent in the last 90 days. Delta, on the other hand, has lost 6 percent.
The market had an overall loss of 1,66 percent in the week even with the listing of TN Bank and Lifestyle Holdings. The index has now lost 9,8 percent in the year.

However, the resources index was glued at 90,90 points but rose an impressive 17,28 percent on a week on weekly basis as it managed to narrow its year-to-date loss to 9,73 percent.
Turnover for the day was down to only US$294 000 in a sign of lack of interest by investors in the market.

Padenga led the movers with a 6,4 percent jump in trades worth only US$233.
FBC, which was voted the best financial in the Zimbabwe quoted companies survey, was up 3,1 percent to US6,70c and Fidelity, which was voted the best company overall was down 6,4 percent to US13,10c.

TNFH won the second best company on the ZSE on the strength of its business model.
However, the group demerged its banking arm TN Bank and renamed the furniture business to Lifestyle Holdings.
The newly listed TN Bank was on Friday bid and offered at US15c and US30c respectively while its former holding company, Lifestyle Holdings, was bid and offered at US1,5c and US2c respectively.

Analysts said the recent demerger and separate listing of Lifestyle Holdings and TN Bank seems to indicate that management viewed the business model to be unsustainable.

The property sector was the worst performing sector of the day after three of the four property counters retreated. ZPI lost 0,99 percent to US1c, Mash eased 3,85                          percent to US2,5c while Dawn lost 14,29 percent to                                     US0, 6c.

Only three stocks managed gains, Padenga added 6,43 percent to US4,8c and Colcom put on a marginal 0,04 percent to US25,01c.
