Infant dies after falling from bed

A one-year-old boy from Dombodema area in Bulilima District died from injuries sustained when he fell from a bed while asleep.
Police spokesperson for Matabeleland South Assistant Inspector Christopher Ngwenya confirmed the incident which occurred on Monday.
“I can confirm that we received a report of a one-year-old infant from Dombodema area who sustained serious injuries after falling from a bed while sleeping alone and  died after three days,” said Asst Insp Ngwenya.

He said the infant which was left by its parents unattended was found lying on the floor and crying on Saturday by his father after falling from the bed.

“Mr Mike Nleya found his son lying on the floor and crying on Saturday at about 10am. The boy had sustained head injuries and his condition continued to worsen. On Monday morning he was having difficulties in breathing and was crying non-stop.

“His mother later took him to Dombodema Clinic where he was pronounced dead on arrival. The body was taken to UBH for a post-mortem and we are still carrying out investigations,” said Asst Insp Ngwenya.
