Infantino mourns 20 Malawi players killed in crash

ZURICH. — The President of FIFA, Gianni Infantino has expressed his condolences to the family and friends of the members of Malawi Club, Nyungwe United Football Club, who were involved in a road accident over the weekend. 

“I extend my deepest condolences to the families and friends of the victims of the road accident involving members of Nyungwe United Football Club who were returning after playing a domestic fixture.” 

The club’s players and supporters were travelling on a truck which overturned on their way back and over 20 people have been confirmed dead with several others injured. 

Infantino added: “My thoughts and prayers are with the people who lost their lives, those who have been injured in this tragic accident, and the staff at the Football Association of Malawi at this difficult time.” 

Flags were also lowered to half-mast at the home of FIFA on Monday, in memory of those who lost their lives in the accident in Malawi. — SuperSport
