Injury likely to dent Mushekwi’s career

JOHANNESBURG. — There are fears that Zimbabwe international striker Nyasha Mushekwi’s career could be on the edge because of a serious injury. Mushekwi has not been registered with Mamelodi Sundowns’ squad for this season and reports indicate that tests done on his injury recently raised serious alarm.

Mushekwi tore a knee ligament, in a serious injury, during his season on loan to Belgium side KV Oostende.
Meanwhile, Cuthbert Malajila says his Mamelodi Sundowns teammates cannot wait to get the season started as they prepare for an MTN8 quarter-final against Platinum Stars on Saturday.

The league champions have been involved in a number of pre-season tours and tournaments, but the Zimbabwean forward says the players are now anxious to get the real action under way.

“After such a lengthy period of no serious footballing action, I can tell you now that all the players are itching for our first match of the season especially against a team like Platinum Stars,” Malajila said at the launch of the MTN8.

“You must also understand that this has been one of those tricky encounters for us and opening a season against them is a start straight from the blocks and we want to make it matter.”

Malajila was also quick to pour scorn on the notion that Dikwena are a bogie side for The Brazilians, especially after a 3-1 success for Pitso Mosimane’s side on their way to winning the league.

“I wonder though if people will still talk about them (Stars) being the hoodoo team because we convincingly beat them last season. It will be an interesting affair though as both teams will go all out for a win.” — Agencies.
