SUPERSPORT UNITED coach Gavin Hunt has revealed that Zimbabwe international striker Terrence Dzvukamanja is nursing an injury sustained during a CAF Confederation Cup clash away to Al Hilal Benghazi last week.
Dzvukamanja, who has four goals in the current campaign, subsequently missed SuperSport United’s 2-1 comeback win over Moroka Swallows in a DStv Premiership match.
Speaking to the South African media after their win over Moroka Swallows, Hunt said the absence of Dzvukamanja affected his game plan. “Terrence got a hell of a knock in Liberia. It was a big blow because he gives me so many options, he can play wide as well for us you know? “So we are lacking, well, we don’t have options. When we played Mamelodi Sundowns we had eight DCC players on the bench . . . ,” said Hunt.
Meanwhile, SuperSport United welcome Libyan side Al Hilal Benghazi in the second leg of the CAF Confederation Cup group stage at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane tonight.
Kickoff is at 9pm.
Matsatsantsa’s performance has not been impressive as they found it hard to collect points in both the domestic league and the Confederation Cup recently.
Tonight’s match is a crucial one for the home side who lost 2-1 in the first leg on the road last week.
“The mood in the camp is good at the moment. It had been a while since we had got a win and the pressure was building, so you can tell that the guys feel like a weight has been lifted off our shoulders. Training has been fun and the spirits are high.
“After losing to this outfit in the reverse fixture, we know that it won’t be easy, but we are confident that with the home ground advantage, we will get all three points,” said the United midfielder Jesse Donn.
United are going into this match highly motivated after winning a domestic league match against Moroka Swallows last week with substitutes Tenda Matodzi and Etiosa Ighodaro on the score-sheet respectively.
“It was great to see Tenda mudzimu net his first goal in the win over Swallows, and it just showed the importance of staying ready. He has been working hard at training and when his chance came, he took it, and it benefited the entire team,” said the Cape-Town-born midfielder. Interestingly, the return of hard-working midfielder Siphesihle Ndlovu is a big boost for coach Gavin Hunt’s charges. Ndlovu, who started against Moroka Swallows last week, rejoined his team following the injury he picked up at the beginning of the current season.
“Unfortunately we still have some major injuries going into this encounter, but having the likes of Gatsheni (Siphesihle Ndlovu) back in the team brings some much needed experience and quality. We still believe in the players we have to get the job done,” said Donn.
Besides dropping a lot of points, Matsatsantsa supporters will always get behind their team and are hoping for a good festive season present in the last three matches of the year starting tomorrow. “A big shout-out to the Matsatsantsa faithful for sticking by us through this tough and congested period of fixtures. Now that we are back to winning ways, we hope to continue to give you the wins you deserve,” concluded the United Midfielder — Sports Reporter/SuperSport.
