Inmates graduate in Theology

At least 33 Harare Central Prison inmates and three prison officers yesterday graduated with diplomas in Theology from the Africa Multi-Nation for Christ Colleges (AMFCC).

AMFCC is a bible college under the Zimbabwe Assemblies of God Africa (ZAOGA), which meets the training needs of church leaders and congregations worldwide.

This was the first course to be offered to inmates.

The prisoners who graduated are serving sentences from seven to 35 years and had been convicted of several crimes including rape, murder, stock theft and unlawful entry.

Speaking after handing over certificates to the graduates, director of AMFCC Dr Joe Guti said the successful accomplishment of the course was the first step for the prisoners to be reintegrated into society.

“Today we are celebrating the commitment you made by choosing to be disciplined by studying and accomplishing a course in spiritual things,” he said.

“This will take you above your measures and desires.

“This vision was spear-headed by Apostle Ezekiel Guti for the country to have God fearing citizens. We have sound intellectuals, but spiritually they are a menace.”

Officer-in-Charge of Harare Central Prison Chief Superintendent Mike Musonza thanked ZAOGA for the initiative which he said would change the lives of the inmates.

“ZAOGA used to bring food stuffs, equipment and other necessities, but they saw it fit to impart prisoners with spiritual knowledge,” he said. “We are happy with this pioneer programme.
