The ward covers the city centre.
Zanu-PF vice-chairman for the area, Cde Kevin Muzvidziwa, said the scheme encouraged good work ethics and self-sustenance.
“The scheme encourages the habit of work ethics. I would like to thank President Mugabe for the seed maize as it came at the right time as the rains have started,” said Cde Muzvidziwa.
The commissar of the ward, who was the overseer of the distribution of the seed maize, Cde Ruggel Nyatsvimbo, said people should learn to be self-reliant and shun handouts from donors.
“We should till the land for sustenance, send our children to schools and feed our families. We should shun donor handouts as they make us lazy,” he said.
Cde Nyatsvimbo said the distribution of the seed maize would go a long way in ensuring food security in the province.
He called for unity of purpose in farming because there was a need to feed the nation.
“As you can see we are distributing the seed maize without favour or discrimination. We want this distribution to benefit all people in Zimbabwe,” said Cde Nyatsvimbo.
Speaking after the distribution exercise, Cde Muzvidziwa said the youths in the ward had bought a cow as part of their fund-raising efforts for the Zanu-PF Annual People’s Conference to be held in Bulawayo next week. He declared victory for the party in next year’s elections.
“In next year’s elections we will win the urban seats resoundingly. The urban voters have seen that other parties have failed to deliver,” said Cde Muzvidziwa.
