The student club of the National University of Science and Technology (Nust), NustVAM, will be holding an exhibition at the National Art Gallery in Bulawayo which will run on 8 and 15 February, as well as 13 March.
The exhibition will run under the theme of “Varsity Life”. The president of the club, Charlton Tendai Rupfunde, revealed that the exhibition will showcase the life of a university student on campus.
“Varsity life is a theme that basically explains what happens at universities. We chose this theme so that every student can share what they have experienced emotionally or physically at the university.”
Nust Visual Arts Movement (NustVAM), aims to display the diverse experiences and emotions that students encounter during their university lives. The group plans to present their experiences through a wide array of artistic mediums, including drawings, paintings, graphic designing, animation, and wire sculptures. By using these forms of art, NustVAM aims to bring a sense of understanding among audiences which allows them to explore the complexities of university life from different perspectives.
“I think it will make people understand each other since we will be sharing our different experiences. I hope audiences will leave the exhibition knowing the good and the not-so-good things that happen at varsity.”
By encouraging dialogue and reflection, NustVAM intends to create a space where people can share their stories and gain a better understanding of the nature of university life. Kupfunde expressed hopes for NustVAM to gain exposure and recognition through the exhibition.
“I hope to learn about other people’s experiences through their art, and I also hope that NustVAM gains exposure after this exhibition,” he said.
Meanwhile, Great Zimbabwe University will host a similar exhibition on 13, 21 and 30 March at the same venue, under the theme GZU Moments in Times. The exhibition will include students and lecturers. The National Art Gallery will be hosting several exhibitions throughout the year, while renovations also earmarked for some parts of the building.
