SIZOLWETHU Dube’s appointment as one of Zimbabwe Women’s Soccer League board members, didn’t just come about.

It was one mention that any local football follower would nod and appreciate, it was deserved.

Dube, on March 16 was seconded to the position and it came at a time when women are strongly encouraged to take up leadership positions.

Dube has always been a football fanatic. That passion has pushed her to a level she never expected.

She played for Inkanyezi Ebomvu, a girls’ team from Nkulumane suburb for a brief period before she decided to be involved at an official level, by being involved in administration.

At that moment, she took her career in football to another level.

Dube is a former secretary general for Talen Vision from 2011 to 2014. Later on, she joined Borrow Jets. In 2014, she was the

Bulawayo women’s football provincial secretary general. Her term ended in 2018.

She was team manager for the Under-17 National Women’s team, which went to Botswana in 2020. Dube held the position of

Bulawayo province chairperson for some time before she was selected to be a board member in the national executive over the past weekend.

Theresa Magurawushe was chosen to lead the executive and her deputy is Dumisani Sithole.

Dube said she was elated and vowed to serve well.

“I’m happy to be working with Theresa Magurawushe. I hope to learn more and inspire women along the way of my career,” she said.

Dube said she was inspired by the founder of Talen Vision, Khumbulani Nkomo and his wife Thembelihle Moyo. She attended administration and coaching courses while working for the club.

“I’m grateful to Khumbulani Nkomo and his wife for their resolute support and urging me on with my career. My advice to young women and aspiring sportswomen is that believe in yourself, have self-confidence, never use your body to get top posts and aim higher in life, it’s never too late to try new and higher avenues in life. Let’s be proud of being women, we can do better and we shouldn’t allow the nature of the sport to change our way of thinking or behaviour, we are women, a unique and rare beauty,” said Dube.

In all her endeavours, she has the support of a caring husband and family rallying behind her.
