Leadership Award to honour the late Police Deputy Commissioner General.
She was Police Deputy Comm Gen responsible for crime.
Speaking at the launch in Harare, her widower, Mr Albert Mandizha, said the award celebrated the life of Barbara as a leader and the impact of ALMA on her life.
“Barbara lived a value-driven life, which was based on integrity, honouring God and to be a role model and all these character traits she learnt at ALMA.
“Our family has found it highly necessary to give back and appreciate the school that embedded her with all she knew by launching this award.
“The award should serve as a means of remembering that principle, courage and value that drove Barbara to be such a success,” he said.
Mr Mandizha noted that the fundamentals of ALMA had been enough to educate Barbara both academically and spiritually, which were her most priced possessions.
“Barbara went to ALMA to seek academic qualification but got more than a masters degree. She was transformed from one kind of leader to another in line with ALMA’s mission,” he added.
Speaking at the same occasion, ALMA board chairperson, Mrs Elizabeth Mwamuka, said Barbara had a passion for understanding how integrity could be fixed into academics, resulting in the astute person she became.
“We are grateful to the Mandizha family for appreciating the sense of identity that was instilled in her at ALMA. This award will be floating from one winner to the other every year as we also show our appreciation for the impact of Barbara at the academy.
“She always put God first, saying God was her utmost boss and growing spiritually, this is the candidate that we witnessed at ALMA,” Mrs Mwamuka said.
Former executive director of ALMA, Dr Rodney Orr, who flew from the United States to attend the launch praised Barbara’s dynamism saying she was keen to pass on a legacy of loyalty, honesty, integrity, humility, compassion and commitment.
Deputy Comm Gen Mandiza died in China in November last year where she was receiving treatment.
