THE Inter-school golf tournament hosted by Emmanuel College at the ZRP Golf Club over the weekend turned out to be a springboard for many upcoming golfers.

A total of 16 schools took part, including Arundel, Conway College, Dominican Convent, Peterhouse, St George’s College, St John’s College and The Heritage School.

The tournament was divided into four divisions, namely Championship, A, B, and C Divisions.

Emmanuel College patron Charles Kamba said the tournament is important in refining the junior golfers.

“The tournament is very important for us as a school and everyone who participated,” he said.

“It provides that standard where we measure the skill improvements of our own junior golfers.

“They will be competing with somewhat top junior golfers across Zimbabwe.”

Emmanuel College will be taking part in the Junior All Challenges in Durban in August and they are already preparing for it.

“It provides the much-needed focus and exposure to our junior golfers who will be preparing for international tournaments, hence key for improving their skills and love for their sport.

“After this tournament we hope our golfers are going to experience a change of attitude as they get motivated to do more as the tournament is run in a way like a clinic to explain the rules to them; hence they become fine golfers.

“Golf is a game of rules and this is where they understand the rules of the game and grow deep in the game,” said Kamba.
