Interact Club report from George Emmanuel

Interact is a junior subsidiary of the prestigious and international board, Rotary International especially dedicated to charity. The George Emmanuel College family recently joined this wonderful family of generosity having been chartered on February 25 by the Harare CBD Board. We as George Emmanuel College are the newest baby on the block and so far we have had a tremendous kickstart.

On March 6, 2016 we were invited to a function with the Rotary International president. The function was at St George’s College.

It was the president’s first time to visit and it was an honour to meet such a significant role model. The theme for the event was “Representing the voice of the Voiceless”.

The honourable president shared some words of advice with everyone as he showed his love for young people. He talked of his experiences as a teenager and how he became to be who he is now.

As interactors we learnt about life skills and the character of being a good leader.

Schools present on this day include the host St Georges, St John’s Emerald Hill, Peterhouse, Dominican Convent, St Dominic’s Chishawasha, Cornway College, Chinhoyi High, Watershed College, Mbare High, St John’s College, Arundel School, Prince Edward and our very own George Emmanuel college.

As a treat for being the new and exquisite members of the interactors, her excellency the president of Harare CBD escorted us to the reserved VIP seats upon arrival and we express our gratitude to her.

One unforgettable moment we had was when we took some selfies with the Rotary International president because he had mentioned that our uniform was classic and he was attracted to class.

Still on that personal encounter with the George Emmanuel college students, the honourable president commented on the culture of kneeling portrayed by the students saying he had never seen such at any other school in the world. We learnt a lot of things and witnessed a lot of wonderful deeds in the society.

To start with, there was St Dominic’s Chishawasha who, through a presentation summarised their efforts as they dedicated themselves to aiding their school wit a borehole through fundraising money. Another school, Chinhoyi High bought an ambulance.
