HIGHLANDERS Football Club has said the interim committee led by Sibekiwe Ndlovu will remain in charge of the ladies’ team Highlanders Royals until elections for a substantive leadership are held.
Ndovu is deputised by Thandiwe Msimanga, while Kholiwe Moyo is secretary, Khetha Marizani (treasurer) and Elizabeth Ncube (committee member).
This follows confusion over affairs at Highlanders Royals after local businesswoman Caroline Ndlovu was linked with a new committee that had taken over the running of the team.
Highlanders FC vice-chairman Modern Ngwenya, whose portfolio also covers the ladies team, set the record straight.
“The interim committee led by Sibekiwe Ndlovu remains in charge of Highlanders Royals until elections are held. Caroline was never part of a so called meeting that endorsed her as the new interim chairperson of the team and it’s unfortunate that her name is being dragged through the mud,” said Ngwenya.
“The ladies team falls under my jurisdiction and, as a club, we are happy with the way the ladies team is being run. The team might be losing, but we are not entirely worried about the results at this stage. The team is still work in progress and we believe their performance will improve with time,” he said.
Caroline, who was also present at the press briefing, said she was out of the country when the meeting that allegedly endorsed her as the new boss of the Royals took place and remained adamant that she was not involved with the ladies team in any capacity.
Meanwhile, Cowdray Park edged Highlanders Royals 2-1 in a league match played on Saturday, while log leaders Inline Academy were held to a 1-1 draw by Hwange.
New Orleans were awarded a 3-0 walkover after Sobukhazi failed to turn up for their scheduled encounter in Pumula North.
