In an effort to promote peace and sustainable development in Africa, a road trip across the continent will see 12 international artists from across the globe travel through 12 nations.
Dubbed the “Great African Caravan”, these artists from India, Argentina, Britain, Uganda, Germany, and Kosovo among others will bring discussions on sustainable development goals into a creative sphere.
The trip started in Cape town, South Africa with artists passing through Zimbabwe, heading north to Cairo, Egypt.
Speaking in an interview, Ugandan artist Semwogerere Gilbert Isaac who is Harare said he is looking forward to meet the Zimbabwean youth and interact with them.
“I call upon the youth to come and join our workshops. I am an artist that advocate for people’s peace and our goal is to create a boarder-less world. We want to spread the spirit of interconnectedness, peace, and global citizenship. This will all be witnessed at our workshops through music, poet, theatre and paintings,” he said.
The workshops are starting tomorrow up to September 27 and they will be held at the National Art Gallery as well as communities like Chitungwiza, Mabvuku and Mufakose to attract a broader audience.
The seven-month trip will cover countries like Zambia, Mozambique, Malawi,Rwanda, Uganda, Ethiopia, Tanzania, Sudan and Egypt as artists expand and share their knowledge and spark conversations on sustainable development goals.
Throughout the journey, the artists will work with local humanitarian organisations, youth groups, and artists as well as other governmental bodies to connect, strategise, design novel solutions for local challenges.
