INTERNATIONAL experts have been roped in to help investigate the helicopter crash that killed businessman Mr Wicknell Chivhayo and four others last week, with a preliminary report expected within 30 days of the accident.
Speaking after the Cabinet meeting this afternoon, Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Minister Dr Zhemu Soda said preliminary investigations at the crash site had been completed.
“Preliminary on-site investigations have been concluded, with the wreckage being recovered to the Government Hanger at Charles Prince Airport to allow for detailed forensic examination including international experts,” he said.
The Bell 430 helicopter, operated by Sky Helicopters Private Limited, crashed at Kudenga Farm in Mashonaland East on September 30 while travelling from Gandami in Chikomba District to Marondera.
All five occupants died: pilot Captain Calvin Soda, Mr Chivhayo, his wife Ms Lucy Muteke, Ms Sanelisiwe Magagula and Captain Courage Mutavira.
“Government advises that a preliminary report will be expected in 30 days of the accident, in line with international investigation standards,” said Dr Soda.
The investigation will examine the wreckage, weather information, maintenance records and operator and crew records.
