THE deadline for submission of applications for this year’s Intwasa Festival koBulawayo looms with five days to go before the cut off date.
This year the festival celebrates 10 years of its existence and runs under the theme “Unforgettable”. Intwasa Festival director Raisdon Baya called on artists of any genre to submit their content on or before the due date this Friday.
“Intwasa is inviting artists to send in their applications detailing exactly what they would want to do at the festival. The applications must reach Intwasa offices before close of business on Friday, May 30,” he said.
Baya, who is a renowned arts commentator, said the festival was celebrating 10 years of arts promotion in the city.
“These are 10 years of arts promotion in Bulawayo and Zimbabwe in general and as part of this big celebration the festival will be publishing an anthology of short stories that have won or been shortlisted for the Intwasa Short Story Competition. Some of the writers who entered the Intwasa short story competition have gone on to be published and to write bigger literary projects,” he said.
Baya said an anthology of writers who will be published includes Byronne Rhme, Novuyo Rosa Tshuma, Dr Thabisang Ndlovu, Charlton Ndlovu, Violete Kui Tee, Sipho Mpofu and others.
He said Intwasa plans to honour Zimbabweans who contributed to the arts sector.
“The festival is also planning to honour artists and citizens who have contributed not only to the growth of the festival but of the arts sector in Bulawayo and Zimbabwe in general,” said Baya.
Intwasa will be held from September 23 to 27.
