ORGANISERS of the Intwasa Arts Festival koBulawayo are calling for artistes and practitioners who want to participate in the 11th edition of the festival to start submitting proposals.

The application form, which can be downloaded from the Inwasa website, www.intwasa.org, must be submitted by April 30, either online or at their offices in Bulawayo.

“The festival is now accepting applications from artistes who want to be part of the 2015 edition. Intwasa is looking at new, exciting, cutting edge work in music, theatre, spoken word, literature, dance and visual arts,” festival director, Raisedon Baya said.

He said consultative meetings would be held in Bulawayo to make the festival, which runs from September 21 to 26, more inclusive.

“There are some communities such as the European, Indian, Xhosa, Chewa, Nambya and Tonga that are part of Bulawayo, but are not visible in the festival. We’re about cultural diversity and hopefully during these consultations, we shall find products and ways to showcase them,” he said.

The director said as a result of their involvement of the Bulawayo community, the festival would be held under the theme: “My Intwasa, Your Intwasa, Our Intwasa”.

“After 10 years of Intwasa trying to establish itself as a serious platform for cultural expression, the festival is charting a new course that is deeply centred on community engagement, in the hope of creating a sense of community ownership of the festival, especially among Bulawayo people,” said Baya.

Festival goers can expect new additions to the programme such as a gospel concert which will be held at the amphitheatre and a high school choral music competition.
