Abel Chikomo (36) has since taken the producer of the bricks, Effort Chikengezha (30) to the Magistrate’s courts.
Chikengezha who is being char-ged with fraud pleaded guilty to the offence when he appeared before Harare Magistrate Mr Tavengwa Chibanda.
He admitted that he was the one who provided Chikomo with the 10 000 bricks. However, in defence he argued that he had no case to answer since he had sourced the bricks from someone else.
This forced the court to rule out a plea of guilty and entered the one of not guilty thereby remanding Chikengezha to May 12 for trial on US$150 bail.
Appearing for the State, Mr Gift Zimbuka alleged that on February 7 this year, Chikomo bought 15 000 bricks worth US$2 100 from Chikengezha. The State says instead of delivering the agreed bricks, Chikengezha delivered 10 000 at Chikomo’s stand in Chishawasha hills and promised to bring the remainder, which he never did, it is alleged.
The court heard that Chikomo used the bricks to build his house.
After a week, it rained and Chikomo received the shock of his life when he visited his stand only to be welcomed by a hip of mud as the house had collapsed.
