TWO Rusape prosecutors tried to turn an Inyanga’s misfortune into a personal payday, and now they’re the ones facing justice!
Takunda Muzenda and Marlon Makamba, both stationed at Rusape Magistrates Court, have been arrested by the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) after allegedly extorting hundreds of dollars from a desperate inyanga whose case was pending before the courts.
The healer had been arrested in June 2023 for allegedly threatening a man over an unpaid debt. His wife sought help, only to be linked to Makamba, who demanded US$250 and was paid US$189.
Things escalated, ZACC said in a statement, when Muzenda took over and allegedly demanded a stiff US$500, claiming US$300 was for the magistrate and US$200 for himself to make the case vanish.
The inyanga paid US$400 and was told not to show up in court. But when a warrant of arrest was issued anyway, the bubble burst. Furious and feeling duped, the traditional healer set a trap with ZACC and both prosecutors were nailed.
They will appear at Mutare Magistrates Court on 27 June. The case has sent shockwaves through the justice system, exposing the rot that even spiritual figures can’t cleanse.

Even the magistrate was involved. This is a something well known in our justice system. It’s an old age practice. Even the now head of ZACC can testify to that.
