POLICE have arrested a 29-year-old Inyathi man in Matabeleland North province who allegedly killed his wife by strangling before dumping the body in a bushy area after a fight over a yet to be disclosed dispute.
Passmore Moyo (29) of Circle C Village 2 in Inyathi was arrested for allegedly strangling his wife Moreblessing Mlotshwa (26) to death. He is facing murder charges, according to the police. Matabeleland North provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Glory Banda confirmed the incident stressing that investigations were underway to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the murder.
“I can confirm that we have arrested Passmore Moyo who is now facing murder charges. On 6 March 2024 a report of murder was received at ZRP Inyathi (Durban Base) from an informant to the effect that Moreblessing was murdered by Passmore who is her husband,” he said.
He said Moreblessing’s body was discovered around 8pm by Hloniphani Moyo who was on his way from the village to Bleachingly Plots.
“Circumstances are that on 5 March 2024 around 8pm Moyo was on his way home from Circle C Village heading to Bleachingly Plots using a foot path. While in the middle of the bush close to Bleachingly Plots the informant discovered the deceased’s lifeless body lying by the side of the footpath. She was wearing a grey T-shirt and brown skirt.”
Police said Moyo left the scene intending to go back to the village to inform other villagers but on his way he met the accused who just emerged from the bush and asked him for matches.
“Moyo met the accused who was wearing a white T-shirt, black short, khaki work suit jacket and black gumboots about 60 metres from the scene and he asked for matches that Moyo gave him. The accused however, told Moyo that his wife was tired and was unable to walk home,” said Insp Banda.
He said Moyo left the accused and proceeded to plot number 5 where he informed Godknows Mudenda. The two teamed up with another villager, Sikhumbuzo Ndlovu and proceeded to the scene where on arrival they noticed that the body was now covered with a khaki work suit jacket which the accused was wearing when he met Moyo.
He said a report was made at ZRP Durban base and CID Lupane attended the scene and observed that the deceased was lying on the ground facing eastwards with clotted blood on the mouth and nose.
“It was also observed that the deceased had bruises all over the body and strangle marks on the neck. There were struggle marks around the scene and wooden sticks.
“The body was taken to Inyathi District Hospital enroute to United Bulawayo Hospitals for post-moterm. The accused was arrested and is assisting police with investigations,” added Insp Banda.
