A 28-YEAR-OLD Inyathi woman has been fined US$300 after she was caught with 15 grammes of dagga during a police patrol.
Moreblessing Dube of Mpolompolo Village 1 in the Durban area was convicted of unlawful possession of a dangerous drug by Inyathi resident magistrate Mr Challenge Mahembe.
The court ordered Dube to pay a US$300 fine, with an alternative of six months in prison.
She was also sentenced to an additional six months behind bars, wholly suspended for five years on condition that she does not commit any offence involving the unlawful possession, use, cultivation or trafficking of dangerous drugs during the period of suspension.
The court heard that on September 20 at around 3pm, police officers on patrol in the Durban area became suspicious of Dube and stopped her.
A search was conducted, resulting in the recovery of 15 grammes of dagga.
Dube was asked to produce a licence authorising her to possess the drug but failed to do so.
She was subsequently arrested and the dagga seized.
Dube was convicted of unlawful possession of a dangerous drug as defined in Section 157(1)(a) of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act.
