Inzamam-ul-haq in frame to be Pakistan’s batting consultant

FORMER Pakistani skipper and the current national selector Inzamam-ul-haq is reportedly in frame to bag another top job with the Pakistani national side.

Some reports have floated the media already, which suggest that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is mulling a new appointment for the post of batting coach or a batting consultant for the national setup.

As per recent reports in India Today, Inzamam-ul-haq has already shown interest in helping the Pakistani batters, who have been struggling to find consistency for quite some time now.

Also, some sources in the board suggested that the 120 Test match veteran is already attending the net sessions of the team in South Africa at the moment.

It will not be surprising to see him join the side as a consultant ahead of the 2019 World Cup.

“He has already got involved with the team in South Africa and is attending their nets. Inzamam could be the next batting coach/consultant of the team before the World Cup as the board is not satisfied with the performance of batting coach Grant Flower, who has been with the team since the last World Cup,” a reliable source in the PCB said.

The reports further reveal that the board is apparently unhappy with the services of the current batting coach Grant Flower.

The former Zimbabwean cricketer has been associated with the team since World Cup 2015. Former cricketer Asif Iqbal added weight to the point by citing that the perennial struggles of the batsmen should come to an end.

He suggested that the blame must not always go to the players for this, but also to the coaches who are responsible for rectifying such batting woes in the national side.

“We always hear the players getting blamed for any poor show, but what about the coaching panel. Are they also not responsible?

“If our batsmen are constantly making the same mistakes and not improving, it indicates a failure of the batting coach to deliver,” Asif Iqbal noted.
