iPhupho Lam’ back to identify more talent

The second edition of iPhupho Lam’ (my dream) Talent Show has bounced back to play its role of identifying and nurturing children’s talents. 

The talent show was brought to life by Drums of Peace (DoP) founder, Lewis Ndlovu in April this year. The second leg of the talent search is set to be conducted at Thabiso Youth Centre in Makokoba today with talent in poetry, dance, acting, singing and modelling talent set to be unearthed.

The programme, Ndlovu said, is aimed at giving children a sense of belonging and celebrating their talents.

“iPhupho Lam’ (my dream) is a talent show that aims at identifying and nurturing talent in children to assist them to find themselves in the arts fraternity and grow their talents. 

“Talents are gifts hence they need to be acknowledged. All kinds of talent are welcome and after identifying the talent, the children will be nurtured and upgraded to the next level,” he said.

The event organiser said the talent search also thrives to be a platform for the kids to make new connections, which can be useful in future.

“The talent show was launched in April during the school holiday. The objective is to make it happen every school holiday when children are available. This initiative comes in to facilitate the establishment of a programme of action. It seeks to assist communities and children to come together and have a sense of belonging, togetherness and celebration.”

From the talent that was identified in April, six kids are now taking part in a documentary on Bulawayo’s oldest township, Makokoba. 

“The story of Makokoba needs to be told. There are a lot of big brands that came out of Makokoba with different talents namely Peter Ndlovu, Rosemary Mugadza, Christina Mpanza and Zenzo Moyo on the sports front. 

“In the arts are the likes of the late Cont Mhlanga, Sihlangu Dlodlo the intellectual, Priscila Sithole, Raisedon Baya and Ngonidzashe Nyakudziwanza – a township boy who has risen to be a bank manager. The list is endless and there’s so much talent in Makokoba,” Ndlovu said. – @SeehYvone
