Since the victory of the Islamic Revolution in Iran in 1979, Iranian women have successfully maintained their authentic cultural and religious values while playing an active and decisive role in all spheres of the country’s progressive development.

This forward-looking movement reflects the image of a dynamic society in which women’s human dignity is protected, and their talents are nurtured in the service of the nation and in building a better future. A review of the latest statistics regarding women’s participation in Iran clearly demonstrates the significant increase in their role in the country’s social, political and cultural life.

One of the brightest pages of success for Iranian women is found in the field of science and education.

Today, it is a matter of pride that women constitute more than 60 per cent of the country’s teaching workforce, over 60 per cent of students in universities and higher education institutions, more than 40 percent of university faculty members, and 24 percent of Iran’s community of inventors.

This accomplishment not only serves as an effective model for younger generations in Iran and across the region but also attests to the indispensable role of Iranian women in scientific advancement and the country’s knowledge-based development. The presence of more than 66 000 girl students in gifted-education programmes heralds a bright future, promising the continued leadership of the next generation of Iranian women in science and technology.

Iranian women have also played an exemplary role in the health and medical sector. According to the latest statistics, women account for 50 percent of the national healthcare workforce, 40 percent of specialist physicians, and more than 30 percent of subspecialty physicians.

This significant human resource reflects the Islamic Republic of Iran’s commitment to creating the conditions necessary for women’s participation in the most sensitive and vital areas of public service.Iranian women

In the domain of governance and public administration, a positive and upward trend is clearly observable. The service of six women ministers and minister-level officials during the Islamic Republic era, along with 60 deputy ministers, one deputy governor-general, 23 governors, 89 district governors, and 308 senior-level women managers, demonstrates the meaningful contribution of women to national policymaking and executive leadership.

Sports represent another sphere in which Iranian women have displayed exceptional determination. The participation of nearly two million registered women athletes reflects the broad diffusion of a culture of health, vitality, and physical education among Iranian women.  At the elite level, 267 000 female coaches and 40 000 referees at national and international levels are at the forefront of competitive sports development.

Over the past decade, the achievements of Iranian women in the Olympics and their outstanding performance at the 2025 Paralympic Games — culminating in the winning of seven gold, four silver, and one bronze medal — together with the 2025 International Women’s Day Award granted to Iran’s Paralympic Committee for a 62 percent increase in women’s participation, have conveyed to the world a powerful message of the strength and determination of Iranian women.

In Iran’s economic and productive sectors, women entrepreneurs and leaders manage a significant number of enterprises, particularly innovative knowledge-based companies.

These women chief executives, combining expertise, creativity, and strategic foresight, have become key drivers of technological advancement and job creation. They present a model of responsible and effective leadership grounded in resilience, sustainable development, and value creation.

In the strategic agricultural sector which constitutes the backbone of national food security the active and substantial participation of more than 535 000 women agricultural producers is not merely a statistic; it signifies their critical and irreplaceable role in wealth creation, sustainable livelihoods, and progress toward national self-sufficiency.

As a result of continuous effort and robust governmental support, the index of women’s early-stage entrepreneurship has grown by 17 percent relative to men, such that for every 10 male nascent entrepreneurs, there are 2.8 female entrepreneurs.

These statistics are not merely numbers; they symbolise the dedication, effort, and dignity of Muslim Iranian women under a system that has placed their empowerment at the forefront for many years. Although the current achievements are noteworthy and commendable, they do not represent the end of the journey. With steadfast adherence to the values of the Islamic Revolution, the path forward continues with confidence, and hope.
