IS attacks Libya’s oil storage tanks

TRIPOLI. – Islamic State (IS) militants yesterday attacked Libya’s oil storage tanks in eastern Ras Lanuf oil field, media reports said.

IS militants used dozens of vehicles in the attack, in which two army soldiers were killed by a car bomb, reports said, adding that the oil tanks of Harouge oil operations company were set on fire.

The IS in Libya controls the city of Sirte, 450 km east of the capital Tripoli.

The group has been attempting to take oil fields in several attacks and suicide bombings.

Libya has suffered a security vacuum and escalating violence since the fall of former leader Muammar Gaddafi’s in 2011. The political division since then has left the country vulnerable to extremist domination. – Xinhua.
