IS it the scariest incident ever recorded at a schools’ rugby match in Zimbabwe since 1980?

Well, police are investigating a case where a man allegedly stormed a rugby pitch and assaulted a player before pulling a gun, during a schools’ match.

The incident occurred on Saturday during a rugby match between Christian Brothers College (CBC) and Eaglesvale Senior School.

In a statement, national police spokesperson, Commissioner Paul Nyathi, confirmed that investigations were underway.

“The ZRP confirms that investigations are currently underway in connection with a firearm incident and assault case which occurred at Eaglesvale College, Harare, on 13th June 2026.

“The incident took place during a rugby match between Christian Brothers College (CBC) and Eaglesvale College.

“The ZRP urges calm among parents, students, administrators, and stakeholders as police investigations continue.”

Allegations are that the fracas occurred at full-time, when frustrated supporters and parents from the losing side allegedly invaded the pitch.During that moment, they allegedly started assaulting opposition players.

“They just started assaulting players. I am sure it was as a result of frustration since the game was tightly-contested.

“The team (CBC) had lost 14-13 to Eaglesvale,” said a source.

According to another source, CBC supporters were allegedly targeting an Eaglesvale player and the referee.

“At the height of the confrontations, a CBC parent pulled a firearm in front of other students and players after he had assaulted a player.

“He was restrained by other spectators,” added a source.
