Ambassador of the state of Palestine Dr Tamer Almassri has condemned the exploitation of African emigrants by apartheid Israel through its military recruitment of African asylum seekers to fight in Gaza in exchange for permanent residency status in Israel.

He said Israel is trying to compensate for the great loss in its army.

None of the more than 30 000 African asylum seekers living in Israel and those already on the battleground in Gaza have been granted permanent status.

Ambassador Almassri said Israel has also explored the possibility of drafting the children of asylum seekers, who were educated in Israeli schools, into the Israeli army in exchange of granting permanent residency status to their immediate family members.

“The state of Palestine calls on the African Union, African regional bodies, and international rights groups to condemn this crime of extortion on needy people that reflects the racist and Jewish supremacist behavior of apartheid Israel.

“They need to take the necessary measures to hold the criminal occupation leaders accountable for their serious violations of the laws of war and international and humanitarian law,” he said.
