Several Israeli companies are showing interest to invest in the country, with that country’s Ambassador to Zimbabwe, Mr Gershon Kedar, urging Government to continue engaging various stakeholders to improve the economic environment.
Ambassador Kedar said this after paying a courtesy call on Vice President Kembo Mohadi at his Munhumutapa Offices yesterday.
“I am in discussion with the private sector (in Israel) as well, of course there are various companies here already working in various areas,” he said.
“I think as the Government addresses the economic situation here together with the assistance of international financial institutions, many Israeli companies would want to come here.
“We are in discussions and it will take some time, but I think there would be a lot of companies especially in areas such as agriculture, water, high-tech and communication that are showing interest and I think they would be setting shop here as soon as possible.”
Ambassador Kedar said he discussed with Vice President Mohadi ways to improve cooperation between the two countries.
“I had a very good meeting with the Vice President and we discussed two main areas and one is promoting and increasing technical cooperation, capacity building between Israel and Zimbabwe,” he said.
“For many years, people from Zimbabwe have been coming to Israel for capacity building courses and learn about Israeli technologies.
“On my first visit when I came to present my credentials to the President in April, my first task was to visit ministers and other senior officials and discuss how to increase technical cooperation.
“The second issue is generally improving political and bilateral relations between Israel and Zimbabwe and in a lot of these areas I have had good messages from the Vice President.”
