Last year she arrived at the event in a tight black dress showing off her baby bump, this year singer Kelly Khumalo used the Feather awards to make her first public appearance since the death of her soccer star boyfriend, Senzo Meyiwa.

As expected all cameras focused on the singer as she arrived on the red carpet at the event which was held at the Urban Tree in Johannesburg.

Wearing a long black dress with a white detail on the side, Khumalo posed for pictures with a bit of a sombre look on her face.

Her appearance at the event caused quite a stir as many wondered if the singer had acted appropriately by attending an industry event only a week after the man she loved was laid to rest.

However, Khumalo put on a brave face and even managed to get on stage with Dion Chang to present the role model of the year award to TV presenter Zizo Beda.

Khumalo was not the only one to stir a bit of controversy on the night. Singer Fiesta Black had the crowd laughing and gasping as she performed the “Thuntsha Lerole”, a song she claims Thembi Seete stole from her.

Another funny moment came when hosts Akhumzi Jezile and Sade Giliberti revealed that Bonang Matheba’s other name is Dorothy.

In true razzmatazz style sports Minister Fikile Mbalula was presented with the Sports Personality of the Year award . . . this left many confused.

“Which sport is he playing?”, one Twitter user asked, to which Mbalula responded: “What a crazy question, kanti I am Minister of what?”

Mzansi’s Sexiest finalists Amanda du Pont and Nkululeko Tshirimbula picked up their very first industry awards last night, winning the Hot Chick of the Year and Hunk of the Year awards respectively.

The event went fairly well except for the hour and a half late start and the starter only being served at 8:30pm.

By the time the main course came; people were already heading out the door and singer Kabomo had to beg them to stay and have some food.

Meanwhile, Kelly Khumalo has confirmed she is set to rejoin the cast of Rhythm City as party girl character Sunay.

Khumalo confirmed to Times LIVE she would be back on screens as Sunay on eTv’s flagship soapie, “Rhythm City”.

She first appeared in the soapie in 2008 and has since had a recurring role. Khumalo also courted controversy on the show as it was once reported that she had been axed for late-coming and fluffing her lines.

However, it seems soapie producers have buried the hatchet with Khumalo and may be intent on tapping into her rising popularity.

Khumalo has been in the spotlight since her boyfriend and father of her daughter, Senzo Meyiwa was shot dead at her Vooslorus home.

According to previous reports, Khumalo has been holed up in her Mulbarton home from where she watched her beau’s funeral and which they shared for a few months.

She was dressed demurely in a long black gown and said:“Whether I came out today or 10 years from now there would still be a question: why did I come out?”

Meanwhile, Khumalo’s album and book sales are soaring following the tragic passing of Meyiwa.

Her record label, Universal, told Times LIVE they were considering pumping cash into an advertising campaign seeing as the album was doing so well. – Sowetan/Times.
