adminLONDON. — Claudio Ranieri has revealed how nervous he is about the games standing between his Leicester side and the greatest sporting upset of all time.
The Foxes will be the English soccer champions if they win three of their remaining five matches but those fixtures include meetings with top four-chasing sides West Ham and Manchester United, and manager Ranieri said: “It’s not done yet.
“We are in the Champions League — at least, in the preliminary round of the Champions League.
“But the last five tests will be terrible. Tottenham didn’t give up and we have to stay focused.” The popular Italian’s side beat Sunderland 2-0 on Sunday to stay seven points clear of second-placed Spurs and confirm a place in next season’s Champions League. Two years ago, Liverpool’s title bid famously imploded in the final THREE games after a nine-match winning run, with defeat at home to Chelsea followed by a draw at Crystal Palace in a game they led 3-0 with 15 minutes to go.
Asked to explain his sudden display of emotion at the end of Sunday’s win over Sunderland, Ranieri added: “They were not real tears. They were unshed tears. It was a moment of emotion.
“To see all those people around us, entire families on the buses with the Leicester shirts, who have followed us up to Sunderland, it struck me deeply.
“You realise, in these cases, the extraordinary power of football. When our sport manages to pull off this positivity, you cannot remain indifferent.”
Leicester’s other three games are against clubs with virtually nothing to play for — at home to Swansea and Everton and away to outgoing champions Chelsea.
