A WIDOW from Marondera says she has remained faithful to her marriage vows even though her husband died 17 years ago.
Gogo Chibanda, 60, is urging young couples to honour their marriage vows and remain faithful.
She is the Women’s League chairperson at Bethsaida Apostolic Church.
On Saturday, a surprise birthday party was thrown for her by her children.
She said, with God’s help, she had been able to raise and educate her children.
“I want to challenge young couples to respect their marriages by not defiling their bed,” she said. “We have enemies of marriages, those who ruin other people’s homes.
“We have other enemies of life, which include those people supplying illicit drugs and those who do not respond to the call to repent and worship God.
“Grey hair is gold.”
One of her children, Nyemudzai Chibanda, said their mother has taught them to pray and to be content with what God provides them.
“Our mother is so amazing in that she taught us how to communicate with God through prayer.
“She urged us to go before God in prayer, saying everyone can be heard.
“Some people in marriage are used to consulting prophets and traditional healers who are also having marriage troubles, instead of surrendering our issues to the One with the power to take and give life.
“My marriage is sweet because of our mother. Besides praying for me, she also prays for us and her grandchildren.
“At church, she is an intercessor.
“As we celebrate her birthday, I want to say she is our spiritual leader.”
Bethsaida Apostolic Church Bishop Nyasha Manhango saluted Gogo Chibanda for her role in the church.
“Gogo Chibanda is a pillar of strength to a number of people in and outside Zimbabwe.
“She does not teach only by opening Bible scriptures, but also through her lifestyle and deeds.
“We are celebrating 60 years of grace, leadership and love,” Bishop Manhango said.
