Ivory Coast: Fierce firefight outside Ouattara HQ

A heavy exchange of fire erupted at around 11.30am (1130 GMT) as former rebel fighters from the pro-Ouattara “New Forces” were planning to leave their Abidjan hotel base to head towards state television headquarters.

The neighbourhood around the Golf Hotel is controlled by troops from Ivory Coast’s pro-Gbagbo security forces, and gunfire and explosions rang out. Elsewhere in the city, pro-Ouattara demonstrators clashed with police.-AFP
