Ivory dealer in the dock

Herald Reporter

A MAN from Bulawayo, Max Bloomton (54), appeared in court yesterday facing charges related to ivory trafficking.

He is believed to be the owner of 235,2 kilogrammes of ivory, which led to the arrest of four accomplices last week.

Bloomton was charged with violating the Parks and Wildlife Act when he appeared before Harare magistrate Mrs Marehwanazvo Gofa.

He was remanded in custody.

The court heard that Bloomton communicated with his accomplice, Masauso Nevhaya, about the ivory deal.

Nevhaya allegedly discussed the transaction over the phone, where Bloomton instructed him to seek buyers in Harare.

Nevhaya then engaged Priscilla Chabata, who, along with Wonder Bozho and Stanford Mbiriyakura, has also appeared in court.

It is alleged that Bloomton supplied the ivory to Nevhaya and Chabata for sale, with the ivory reportedly kept at Chabata’s residence.
