IWWD celebrations on the cards

On March 22 each year it is International World Water Day, and this year’s local celebrations will be on the 25th of March at Dzivaresekwa 2 High School. It is a means of focusing attention on the importance of freshwater and advocating for the sustainable management of freshwater resources.
International World Water Day is there to remind everyone about the significance of fresh water and to promote sustainability for fresh water resources’ management.

The first proposal for the establishment of this day was made in 1992 during the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED). World Water Day was officially assigned to 22 March in 1993 by the United Nations General Assembly.

The event includes official and milestone events as well as many other events organized by various stakeholders around the world.
“Water and Energy” is the theme of this year.

“Water around the world” is a lesson pack for students that explores how water is used in the home, how it can be saved, and how this compares with other countries where clean water is hard to come by.

“Water” is suitable for all levels, “Pumping it up” is an experiment that shows how underground water is brought to the surface. “Coming back to you” is an activity in which pupils build a model of the water cycle in a jar and there’s a water diary to help students track how much water they use.

Some of the ways that students can celebrate this special day is by composing a song about the ways we use water, writing a story on an imagined journey from the source of a river to its mouth, making a water filter, and investigating how far the nearest source of fresh water is from your school.

Ras Pompy saves the Day
Ras Pompy (13) saved the day last Friday at the rising dancehall chanter Kinnah’s birthday Bash held at Stoddard Hall in mbare where many artistes who had confirmed their participation failed to turn up.

Of the mentioned artistes onlyKiller T,Etherton B and Templeman came through which gave the young dancehall artiste space to shine.

Mbare revellers were up for a time to remember when the 13 year old started reciting Soul Jah Love and Kinna’s famous tracks that the crowd related to. Ras Pompy kept the crowd on their toes throughout his performance as has come to be expected from the hot teen.
