THE Inkululeko Yabatsha School of Arts (Iyasa) has opened applications for the 2026 edition of its prestigious Isiphiwo International Programme — a cultural and arts exchange that offers young Zimbabwean creatives a rare opportunity to refine their craft and expand their horizons in Germany.
Last year, five young artists — Gugulethu Matshazi Dube, Banele Moyo, Hassan Muzorori, Fortune Ndlovu and Lauratta Phiri — represented Zimbabwe, immersing themselves in German culture while showcasing their artistic talents. Iyasa is now seeking its next cohort of versatile students aged between 16 and 19.
Iyasa founder and director Nkululeko Dube, explained that the programme is aimed at young people at a pivotal stage, just after completing school.
“It enables them to share their aspirations, challenges, and ambitions through the arts with peers abroad. Our goal is to nurture leaders and performers with a broad outlook on life. We’re looking for driven, talented individuals who can express themselves and share their skills,” he said.
The selection process is rigorous, focusing on discipline, sociability, self-confidence, eloquence and a balanced representation of genders and art forms.
Applicants will participate in workshops to demonstrate skills such as acting, dance, poetry, singing, or playing musical instruments.
“Our team pays close attention to individual strengths. Above all, we seek sociable, disciplined, confident and motivated individuals, who are eager to learn and share.”
To support cultural adaptation, Iyasa collaborates with long-standing partner KinderKulturKarawane, which has over two decades of experience in hosting global cultural exchanges. Participants will stay with host families, fully immersing themselves in German life and forming lifelong connections.
“This is a transformative experience that helps shape students into mature, enthusiastic global citizens. It inspires them to pursue their careers and livelihoods with passion and responsibility. The skills and perspectives they gain are truly invaluable,” Dube said.
Feedback from last year’s participants has been overwhelmingly positive, with many describing the experience as “life-changing” and a powerful catalyst for their careers.
“Our previous cohort set a high standard. This is a unique opportunity for young creatives at a crucial point in their lives.”
