Jah Prayzah, real name Mukudzei Mukombe, was on fire during his show at the Midlands Hotel in Gweru over the weekend. Deep Roots, a Gweru-based group which plays mbira-fused contemporary afro-jazz, curtain raised for Jah Prayzah in place of Jean Masters who was double booked. The disappointment was quickly washed away as Deep Roots proved to be up to the challenge and kept fans on their feet throughout their session. Fans could hardly contain themselves when the ‘soldier’ superstar and his Third Generation group eventually took to the stage just before midnight.
Jah Prazah unleashed hit after hit plucked from his early albums up to the latest projects, Tsviriyo and Kumbumura Mhute. Fans quickly warmed up to the artiste’s tracks off the two albums.
In an interview, the afro–fusion musician said the main purpose of the show was to give his fans a taste of what to expect from Kumbumura Mhute, his upcoming album.
“This show is a curtain raiser for my album launch and I am happy with the positive response I got from my fans here in Gweru.”
The 10-track album Kumbumura Mhute, which features Botswana diva, Charma girl, will be launched at the Harare International Conference Centre on April 16 before being launched in Bulawayo at the Rainbow hotel on April 17.
