GOSPEL diva Janet Manyowa is unwell.
The queen of praise and worship is down with a flu bug, dizziness and headache.
So dire is her condition that she has cancelled her much-hyped “Wanqoba Concert” set for Saturday in Bulawayo.
She was billed to share the stage with Everton Mlalazi, Lebo Sekogbela, Snowy, Joyful Praise, Khaya Mthethwa and Lorraine Maplanka.
Her husband, Munyaradzi Manyowa, who doubles as her manager, confirmed the gospel diva’s illness.
“We have cancelled all the shows lined-up in June, including the Wanqoba Concert, after Janet fell sick.
“She is down with a flu bug. We would have loved to proceed with the event this weekend, but the doctors have advised her to rest.
“She is responding well to medication at home,” he said.
Munyaradzi told The Herald Arts that South African gospel musician Sekgolela, who was part of the line-up, was also unwell.
“We have also been advised by Lebo Sekgolela’s management that she has also caught the flu bug.
“It’s quite sad that illness has led to the show’s cancellation.
“We don’t have a choice, but to postpone the event as advised by the doctors.”
Janet’s management is set to announce the new dates later this week.
“I assure our fans that the event will occur once our musicians recover from illnesses.
“We have never disappointed the people of Bulawayo who love our music.
“Janet is a big brand with a huge following and we always want to do our best for the sake of our fans.
“Once she is fit and fine, fans should look forward to the event,” he added.
Janet is one of the consistent gospel artistes doing well in showbiz.
Her stock continued to rise after she forged some alliances with regional artistes.
She is also in good books with her South African counterparts Khaya Mthetwa and Sekhobela.
Mthetwa has also shared the stage with Janet in previous festivals.
She has been collaborating with locals, especially Mlalazi.
The two have collaborated on a spiritually uplifting song titled “Fill Our Hearts”.
A role model and influencer, Janet has been empowering the girl child through mentorship programmes.
She has been grooming upcoming artistes as a way of giving back to the community.
Janet is also one of the consistent gospel musicians in Zimbabwe, with Minister Michael Mahendere, Pastor Stanley Gwanzura, Pastor Charles Charamba, and wife Olivia.
Buoyed by the superb choreography, Janet is also a gifted composer who has touched the hearts of many with her songs.
Some of the songs that will certainly bring one closer to worship include “Zadzisa”, “Nyasha Nengoni”, and “Jesu Makanaka” among others.
She is also a gifted guitarist and pianist.
