MUNYARADZI Jari and teammate Tryphine Picardo won the senior men’s and women’s national cross-country championships held in Kadoma on Saturday.
The event was dominated by Harare province.
Each province sent a team of six athletes for each of the six categories.
Senior men and women competed in the 10km race while junior men took part in the 8km and junior women did 6km.
Jari took the senior men’s run in a time of 32 minutes 23.10 seconds.
Jonathan Chinyoka from Harare was second in 32.27.05 and Godwin Katakura filled third spot in 32.43.59.
This was Jari’s second win in the national championships following his 2014 victory.
The senior women had a field of 15 runners and Picardo crossed the finishing line in 41.40.24.
She was followed by Phoebe Chambonga (46.44.33) and Gladys Nyamusosa (47.56. 49).
Osley Murambidzi from Harare won the junior women’s 6km race in 25.49.96.
The junior men’s gold again went to Harare’s Tinotenda Gadza in 28.15.19.
Meanwhile, the Bulawayo Athletics Board held its senior track and field championships at White City Stadium attended by 50 athletes. — @innocentskizoe
