THE Japanese Embassy in Zimbabwe has embarked on a project to construct a new primary school in Bubi District as part of efforts to assist the community.
In an interview on Wednesday, Matabeleland North provincial education director Mrs Boithatelo Mnguni said the project was already rolling with four classroom blocks under construction.
The new school is called Molo Primary.
“We visited the site on Monday and noted that construction was already in progress. Work on the site started in May this year and the four classroom blocks are nearing completion,” said Mrs Mnguni.
“This school is situated in a resettlement area and from our records Bubi has the highest number of satellite schools. The district has 27 normal primary schools and 27 satellite primary schools.
“The parents are excited about the project and from the look of things that school could be completed next month,” said Mrs Mnguni.
She applauded villagers in Bubi and the area MP, Cde Clifford Sibanda for taking proactive measures to ensure that pupils got proper learning structures.
“The local community is proactive. We are also happy that even the Bubi Rural District Council has also applied to the ministry seeking to construct 13 schools and the surveys have been done. We applaud the MP Cde Sibanda who has also pledged to assist pupils through payment of fees,” she said.
Mrs Mnguni also appealed to organisations that are keen to invest in education to build more schools in Binga District.
“In Binga we have 57 normal primary schools and 56 satellite schools. The situation is not good and we need somebody who can build schools there. We applaud Save the Children, a non-governmental organisation, which has assisted us in building a classroom block at Bunsiiwa Primary School in Binga,” she said.
Contacted for comment Cde Sibanda said he was aware of the on-going construction work and pledged to ensure that more of such projects were undertaken.
“I am aware of the project. The community requested for that assistance through World Vision and they drafted the project proposal with my involvement. They are building a new school and this will go a long way in enhancing education standards in the area,” he said.
