DYNAMOS central defender Partson Jaure’s season could have ended with his 30th minute expulsion together with Highlanders forward Njabulo Ncube when the two teams clashed at Barbourfields Stadium on Sunday.Jaure is almost certain to be hauled before the Premier Soccer League’s disciplinary committee after he tried to assault the referee Thabani Bamala but had to be restrained by teammates and police details.

PSL chief executive officer Kennedy Ndebele said he would only be able to comment on the incident when he sees the referee’s report, expected today at the latest.

“I will rather see the referee’s report first before making a comment on that incident,” said Ndebele.
An assault or attempted assault of a match official is deemed a serious offence according to football statutes with players receiving life bans for physically assaulting referees.

In South Africa, Empumalanga Black Aces’ Mabhuti Khanyeza was handed an initial 12 months ban after he allegedly spit on an assistant referee while still an Ajax Cape Town player.

“With four games remaining and Jaure set to miss his team’s next two games, he is likely  not to see any more action this year because I know for certain the league will invoke its own statutes,” said an official with the league.

National team coach Ian “Dibango” Gorowa also came down hard on the national team defender and urged him to control his temper.
“One can only imagine what would have happened had he managed to land that punch on the referee. He should learn to control his anger. This is football and I am sure when he has calmed down he will be the first to go and apologise to the referee,” said Gorowa.

If Jaure is sanctioned by the league, he will automatically be out of running for the Castle Lager Soccer Stars list, joining his counterpart Devon Chafa who is set to miss out after being suspended for six months by world soccer governing body Fifa for allegedly failing a doping test.

Highlanders’ best player this season Bruce Kangwa is also out after receiving six yellow cards so far unless there is a review of the selection criteria.
