CAPS United president Farai Jere says they were targeting Takesure Chiragwi from the onset and never had eyes on any other coach.

His statements follow reports that were circulating that they lost out on Norman Mapeza who has been appointed Scottland coach.

Addressing the media in Harare on Friday morning, Jere said he wants the club to win the 2026 Castle Lager Premiership after making adjustments to the technical department and bringing in a number of new players.

Chiragwi will be deputised by Ian Bakala, who led the team from May following the sacking of Lloyd Chitembwe.

Tinashe Nengomasha, John Vera and Gary Muchakata who are part of the current technical set-up, will come in as team manager and performance analysts for the Green Machine.

“I was reading an article which was actually talking to say we were trying to negotiate with this coach and then we lost him at the last minute, which never happened,” said Jere.

“We know the coach we wanted and we went for him. Our head coach is going to be Mr Takesure Chiragwi.

“He is going to be assisted by coach Ian Bakala. This is the setup which we had at the beginning of the year before we failed to secure him,” said Jere.

Jere challenged the technical set-up to deliver the title in the next coming three years.

“We are going for the league title but contractually we have set a target for a top four finish in the first year, third or second in the second year then the title in the third year.

“He is going to be assisted by Ian Bakala. This is the setup which we had at the beginning of the year before we failed to secure him. We are going to have a new setup.”

Some of the players set to leave the 2023 champions to follow Chiragwi include Richard Hachiro, Talent Chamboko, Kudzai Chigwida,Mcdonald Makuwe, Nyasha Gurende, Obriel Chirinda and Delic Mulimba.

Former Herentals winger,Davison Marowa will return to the capital after a stint with FC Platinum.

The Harare Giants have retained some of their key players from the 2025 season.
