The development of Jerera Growth Point by Zaka District Council is taking shape, with the new medium-density suburb of Nyabare Park nearly complete.
This comes as Zaka Rural District Council’s efforts to clear the number of people on its housing waiting list, as well as getting rid of illegal settlements mushrooming in and around the Growth Point, are progressing well.
The rural district council has contracted a company to develop roads, as it seeks to complete the project within the given time frame.
Council chair Councillor Cornelius Mapuranga told a full council meeting recently that the local authority was seeking to bring service delivery to its people in line with President Mnangagwa’s Vision 2030 trajectory.
“Servicing of more than 500 stands in Nyabare Park is currently underway as the Rural District Council seeks to bring service delivery to its people in line with President Mnangagwa’s Vision 2030 economic transformation trajectory,” he said.
“Roads are being opened and the contractor is now busy working on water lines. This is a project which council is undertaking wholeheartedly having learnt the implications of allowing residents to construct before development of roads, sewer and water works.”
Mr Mapuranga said the Rural District Council was working flat out to make sure the stands were fully serviced before construction started. “We want to make sure that residents construct houses after the installation of water and sewer pipes,” he said. “We have started by developing roads because we don’t want residents to start construction before servicing as this has costly problems.”
Zaka Business Community chair Mrs Sarah Munemo applauded the district council for starting by servicing stands before construction of houses.
“We are very happy with all the programmes being undertaken by the rural district council and we are quite impressed by the ongoing project they are successfully undertaking in Nyabare Park,” he said.
“We are also happy that developments of roads, water and sewer pipes have started before construction of houses to avoid haphazard erections of houses which may result in demolitions.”
