JAZZ maestro Jeys Marabini (real name Majahawodwa Ndlovu), who is touring Europe to promote Zimbabwean music and network with other artistes, yesterday said he was impressed with his tour as the crowds there have fallen in love with his music. The Afro-Jazz king, who is now touring Graz, Austria’s second capital after a successful tour of Vienna – Austria’s capital, said he was stunned by the reaction they were getting from the crowds.

His six-member band that includes Trevor Mnaphi, Mthabisi Moyo, Nigel Mzingaye Ndlela, Dumisani Nkomo, Dumi Nyongolo and Kelvin Ndlovu is making waves there, leaving fans clamouring for more at most shows.

“We are doing very well here. I am happy that the crowds are responding well to our music because at most of the places we’ve performed, people ask for more”, said Jeys.

Three days ago, Jeys shared the stage with acappella group Insingizi and Iyasa. The two groups are on a separate tour of Europe.

“When we performed with Iyasa and Insingizi, fans asked us to return to the stage three times. Some were stamping down making noise demanding that we perform again,” he said.

So far, they have shared the stage with various international groups including Black Wizards Acrobats (Kenya), Kofi Qaurshie (Ghana), Mamadou Diabate (Burkina Faso), Garifuna Collective (Belize), Routes Radicals (Germany), Pangea Projects (Austria) and Maffeu Kamdeau (Austria).

Marabini is also expected to stage shows at various concerts in Graz at the Chiala Afrika and Zimbabwe meets Vienna in Austria festivals.

The aim of the European tour, according to Jeys, is to promote Zimbabwean music as well as market his latest 11-track album Isilo to the international audience.
