Matsangure was convicted at the close of State case on both attempted murder and theft charges. Ms Mutombeni sentenced him to 10 years for attempted murder setting aside two years on condition that for the next five years he does not commit a similar offence.
For theft, Matsangure got a one month wholly suspended term on condition that he restitutes his ex-wife US$200 on or before February 28.
Prosecutor, Mr Sidol Chinzveta told the court that on November 15 last year around 6pm Grace Mashonganyika left her 11 year old son while she went to see a friend.
Matsangure came to the house in the company of his friend and stole two solar panels. Mashonganyika retired to bed around 10pm and before long she heard footsteps outside. She went out and discovered that Matsangure had already lit a fire at the doorstep using grass.
The fire damaged the door, doorframe and clothes. Mashonganyika and her son had to get out of the house through the roof.
