Jilted man threatens to chop wife’s legs, ears

A woman yesterday left the court in shock after revealing that her ex-husband is threatening to chop off her legs and ears because she does not want him back.
Hazel Marira said Castol Chigwere was in the habit of verbally and physically abusing her and that she was now living in fear.
This emerged at the Harare Civil Court where Marira was seeking a protection order against Chigwere.

“He divorced me and married another woman and now he is always asking me to come back to his house and live as husband and wife which I don’t want,” she said.

“I am now living in fear because he threatened to chop off my legs and ears if I keep on refusing to come back to his house. He is in the habit of waiting for me at the bus stop when I am coming back from work where he verbally abuses me.”

Chigwere refuted the allegations, saying he was still married to Marira and that the two were never divorced.
“She is still my wife.  I never divorced her as she is alleging,” he said. “I don’t physically or verbally abuse her, we only had an altercation once when I caught her red handed with a boyfriend and she confessed in church about that incident.

“If she is no longer interested in me, I cannot force her and she can get the protection order that she wants.”
The magistrate Gamuchirai Siwardi granted the protection order which barred Chigwere from physically or verbally abusing Marira and to stop threatening her.
