A MONTH after Baba Harare announced his return to Jiti music after a temporary switch to Gospel, his fans in Bulawayo have to consider themselves lucky as the Jiti kingpin is scheduled to perform at a local joint on 17 October.
His visit to the City of Kings is part of a tour of his latest album titled “The Return of the Jiti Godfather — Greater and Wiser” which features five songs — Couple of Years featuring Gemma Griffiths, Poverty, Chigaba Chinorira, 9 Months and Tiende featuring Blessing Jeduthun.
The title of the album itself speaks volumes about the journey Baba Harare has experienced. He candidly expresses that the lessons accrued during his time in the Gospel realm have profoundly reshaped his personal and musical perspectives.
As he is bringing his new offering at Palace Hotel, Baba Harare will be joined on stage by another exciting performer — Jah Signal, who is expected to bring more fire to the gig.
“It’s a great feeling to be coming to Bulawayo, a place where I know people have genuine love and appreciation of my music. When I did Gospel, I never headlined any event in the City of Kings. But, after close to two years, Jiti music has brought me here.
“What makes this trip even more exciting is that my brother in music, Jah Signal, will be by my side, as he is also set to perform on stage. I predict an exciting show as I redefine myself once more as a Jiti musician,” said Baba Harare.
After his much-anticipated gig in Bulawayo, Baba Harare will take his album on the road, visiting a range of locations including Beitbridge and South Africa, before heading internationally to the United Kingdom.
His performance in Birmingham (UK) on November 29 is expected to attract a significant following, as he continues to expand his reach and share his passion for music with fans across borders.
For loyal fans and new listeners alike, Baba Harare’s return to Jiti signifies not just a continuation of a beloved musical style, but a refreshing take on the genre rooted in personal growth and life experiences.
The combination of his powerful voice, engaging stage presence, and the infectious rhythm of Jiti is sure to create a memorable experience for all in attendance.
